Notes from the Board of Directors - 2-25-07
The
BFA Board of Directors were able to meet February 25 & 26 in
Oklahoma City. Inclement winter weather and scheduled events prevented
an earlier meeting date.
Plans for the 2007 BFA World Championships,
Dec. 3-8, were the most important items on the agenda. “Extreme”
renovations at the OKC Fairgrounds will greet this year’s
competitors along with a new sale pavilion in Barn 3.
Following are HIGHLIGHTS from the Directors’
meeting:
I. $uper$takes Event
The BFA is producing the $uper$takes slot entry event. Fifty slot
participants will pay $5000 for an entry position. One 3 yr old
horse/one rider for each slot entry, horses and contestants must
be named by Oct. 1. Unlike a number of other slot events that have
been produced, the BFA event will payback an unprecedented 88% of
the purse through TEN places:
1st place- $100,000
2nd place- 35,000
3rd place- 23,000
4th place- 15,000
5th place- 12,500
6th place- 10,000
7th place- 7,500
8th place- 6,500
9th place- 5,500
10thplace- 5,000
II. SUCCEED Derby & Challenge Series
SUCCEED Digestive Conditioning Program is the title sponsor of the
Derby event at this year’s BFA World Championships. SUCCEED
is contributing $5000 in addition to product awards. The SUCCEED
Derby purse is increased to $15,000, 2 go-rounds(2D format), top
25 to Finals. The entry fee is $450, first payment due Sept. 15.
A SUCCEED Challenge Series will be competed in conjunction with
the SUCCEED Derby. Derby entries who provide a SUCCEED proof-of-purchase
with their entry form will be eligible for a cash bonus and SUCCEED
product award presented to the fastest Derby horse in each go-round
that is fed SUCCEED.
Derby entries will be allowed one exhibition as are the Elite Juvenile
Futurity, and Futurity entries.
For more information about this unique, beneficial product visit
www.SucceedDCP.com or contact one of the BFA Directors.
III. Amateur Incentive Final
BFA 4 yr. Old Futurity contestants who present a copy of an AQHA,
APHA, or ApHC, amateur card with their entry will be eligible to
compete in an Amateur Finals. The BFA will produce a $5000 Finals
for the top ten amateurs who DO NOT qualify as one of the top 50
Futurity finalists. This will be a “clean slate” finals
and will pay
5 places.
IV. Barrel Horse Sale - Going Big Time
Sale Company produced a record breaking barrel horse sale in 2006
- gross sales on 88 head, $1,000,100. The 2007 sale will catalog

BFA
Notes from the Board of Directors - 6-28-06
***We are marking
the half way point of an exciting barrel racing futurity year! With
point results from 8 BFA approved futurities (Old Fort Days has
not been posted), Bo Hill and her gray mare Silver Creek Dash lead
the standings with 152 points. Charles Burkhart’s Winning
Perks ridden by Brett Monroe is a close second with 148 points.
With a number of fall futurities on the calendar, this championship
will probably be decided at the World Championship Futurity at Oklahoma
City in December.
Cash bonuses
will be awarded to the year-end champion and year-end reserve champion.
***Going Big

dedicated to presenting buyers a choice selection of the best barrel
racing prospects. Special consideration will be given to Future
Fortunes eligible consignments.

***BFA Director
Cindy Arnold continues to assemble an awesome group of vendors for

possible to reserve spaces. (918)773-8831
***MOVE-IN -
We know we have some obstacles and problems!
Vice-President Jimmy Roper and the BFA Board are receptive to suggestions
to help this process go more smoothly. Because of the reining event
that precedes the BFA World Championships, our contestants are not
allowed on the grounds until noon on Monday, Dec. 4. Needless to
say, we all seem to arrive at the same time to get moved in, checked
in, and get an exhibition. The BFA Board needs manpower - volunteers
to help unload trailers. If you can assist us PLEASE contact Jimmy
(918)687-9907.
Please contact
Ross Wright or any BFA
Board member if you have
questions or suggestions. Enjoy safe trips and fast runs!
NOTES
FROM THE BFA BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
Submitted by Tamara Reinhardt 1/15/2006
The Barrel Futurities of America Board of Directors
met Jan. 15 & 16 in Oklahoma City to recap 2005 and make preparations
for 2006. The 2005 BFA World Championships is one of the most successful
events the association has produced.
Danny Ray reported the record-breaking results of
the barrel horse sale. The top 5 horses averaged $43,100, the top
10 horses averaged $28,520, and the overall average was $7,123.
The Future Fortunes select lots averaged $7,279. Going Big Time
Sale Co. (Danny Ray) was agreed to a new contract. The growth and
improvement of this premier barrel horse prospect sale will continue.
John Wainscott, Pro-Tour Barrel Race producer, requested
to have his event in conjunction with the BFA World Championships
for a third year. The BFA Board agreed that this event is exciting
and provides a “charge” for the barrel racing atmosphere
at Oklahoma City. Citing increased facility costs, the BFA requested
an increased fee from Mr. Wainscott, and the BFA would be responsible
for the costs of the announcer, barrel setters, timer, ground crew,
alley crew. A decision is pending while Mr. Wainscott contacts the
slot owners.
The deadline for the 2006 BFA World Championship
Futurity nominations will be extended to February 15, 2006. After
Feb. 15, nominations will be required to include a $200 late fee
plus all futurity payments missed. For each month that a payment
is missed, and additional $50 must accompany the futurity payment.
Please contact BFA Secretary Ross Wright if you have questions.
The 2006 BFA World Championship Derby will have
an increased purse of $10,000. The entry fee will be $395 for 2
qualifying rounds and a finals. The BFA encourages the 5 yr. Old
futurity participants to consider this event for their horses in
December. First payment is due Sept. 15.
The 2D Juvenile Futurity will have a $20,000 purse
in 2006. Entry
fees will remain at $350. First payment is due Sept. 15.
The Youth Barrel Race will be divided into two age
groups: 12 & under and 13 thru 18. Each age division will have
a $1500 purse and $100 entry fee. These two events will be held
Saturday afternoon, December 9. They will have a 2D format/full
second split.
The following have contributed $5000 for 2006: OKC
Chamber of Commerce, Impact Gel Corporation, Elite Trailers, Victory
Farms/Rocket Booster
Saddle sponsors and product sponsors will be listed
in upcoming months. Banner sponsorships are still available to be
displayed along the coliseum arena walls. Contact Ross Wright or
Charles Brock to reserve a banner space.
Year-end bonuses will be paid to more participants
in 2006.
$5000 - BFA 2006 Futurity Champion
$3000 - BFA 2006 Futurity Reserve Champion
$2000 - BFA 3rd place in points standings
$1000 - BFA 4th place in points standings
Because only two Derbies are scheduled for 2006
(San Antonio and Oklahoma City) the Board decided to add the year-end
bonus money to the Finals’ Derby purse. Trophy saddles will
be awarded as well as top 5 awards.
The Future Fortunes program continues to be a valuable
partner with the BFA. Substantial bonuses will be paid in 2006 as
well as at the BFA World Championships to the owners, stallion owners
and breeders of nominated barrel horses. Too, these horses are showing
great potential in the sale ring!
Please contact any BFA Board member if you have
questions or need information. Safe trips and fast runs!

UPDATE 12/1/05
- submitted by Tamara Reinhardt
Just some notes to get ready for the BFA World Championships
December 5-10.
Contestants should have received a mailed packet
including week’s itinerary, contest draw order, stall assignment,
rulebook, BFA director ballot, AQHA America’s Horse nomination
form, and assorted futurity entry blanks. Please read this material
and be familiar with the schedule, check-in times, and special ground
rules.
December 5-10 is an action-packed week of barrel
racing. The 2-D Juvenile Futurity entry list is an amazing compilation
of “ELITE” pedigrees and outstanding riders/trainers.
The $100,000 Pro-Tour Barrel Race scheduled for Thurs. evening is
an additional exciting event planned during this week.
Director Cindy Arnold has assembled and organized
a wonderful group of vendors. If you can’t find “it”
at the OKC Fairgrounds, you don’t need “it”. Patronize
these business people who have come to share their wares at this
BFA competition.
Director Rex Nelson spear-headed an incentive program
for those 4 yr. old futurity horses who competed in this transition
year. The saddle drawing for the Bobby Stivers saddle will be next
week. Close to $10,000 will distributed to the fastest 4 yr. Olds
to reward them for holding their own against the 5 yr. Olds.
Everyone will want to extend a special thank-you
to Pat Hutter, Florence Youree, and James Ward for their 20 year
service and involvement with the BFA. Secretary Pat Hutter is retiring
her position as is Director Florence Youree. Director James Ward
decided not to seek re-election. There will be a reception room
and hospitality near the Barn #1 warm-up arena.
2006 competitions are already underway - this should
be a banner year for the 4 yr.olds. The BFA has already approved
some new events and encourages you, as contestants, to support these
producers. I am particularly excited about the new futurity Dec.
15-17 in Lubbock, TX. It has been a LONG time since there has been
a futurity in the Panhandle. The BFA and these event producers want
to organize competitions that excite and invite entries. Give us
some feedback on what you are looking forward to in 2006 - Members
meeting Tuesday, December 6 following the 1st go-round of the 4-D
Sweepstakes.
December 10 is the Barrel Horse Sale produced by
Danny Ray and Going Big Time Sale Company. Catalogues have been
mailed and will also be available during the week in the BFA office.
Great selection of prospects, Future Fortune prospects, and broodmares.
The
BFA Officers and Directors are pleased to produce this World Championships’
week of barrel racing. Enjoy safe trips and fast runs
- note that officers and directors cell phone numbers are listed
on
the webpage. We will all be in the CITY next week!
BFA
UPDATES FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP-December 5-10:
Hope all of you are prepared to enjoy a wonderful
Thanksgiving Holiday!
For those of you who are entered in one of the events
at the World Championships (Futurity, Derby, Juvenile, 4-D Sweepstakes,
Youth), you will be receiving a packet in the mail that will include
draw lists, stall assignments, itinerary for the week, 2006 futurity
entry blanks, BFA rulebook, AQHA America's Horse nomination form,
AND BFA Director ballots. Please look through this material! It
is easier to correct mistakes and make changes now than during the
week of the Finals.
Please vote for 3 BFA Directors. Cindy Arnold, Rex
Nelson, and Tamara Reinhardt are incumbent directors. Amber Speer
(a competitor from Arkansas), Bo Hill (a competitor from Kansas),
and Ryan Dohrn (owner/competitor, barrelhorses.com associate) are
worthy candidates for these positions. Your vote is your voice!
Danny Ray and Going Big Time Sale Co. have assembled
a great group of horses for the Barrel Horse Sale to be held Dec.
10. Contact Danny Ray if you do not receive a catalogue.
The $100,000 Pro-Tour Barrel Race will be Thurs.
Dec. 8. This event promises to generate excitement, and it will
make four lucky slot holders VERY happy.
The Juvenile Futurity is loaded with some of the
best bred 3 yr. olds you will see anywhere in the country. There
are several futurity producers who are gearing there events for
these youngsters. Please refer to the BFA calendar and support these
producers and their commitment to the BFA. A new futurity in the
Texas Panhandle, Windy Sue's Funturity, Derby, 4-D, and Youth-Yeehaw,
should be a good one to follow OKC. There are some big purse futurities
early in 2006 and then our approval with Fort Smith's Old Fort Days
Futurity.
Continue to contact the BFA Officers and Directors
if you have any questions. Wishing you safe trips and fast runs
- submitted by Tamara Reinhardt
Update:
10/26/2005:
Pat Hutter's fax number is (479)756-9528 for those members who want
to fax in their nominations for the BFA board. Pat listed her phone
number on the ballots instead. Also, there has been a correction
for the WindySue Futurity in Lubbock. ONLY horses foaled in 2002
are eligible for the futurity. The Derby will be for 2000 and 2001
foals with an increased purse. A new entry form will accompany election
ballot packets.
Barrel
Futurities of America
August 2005
Update from the Board of Directors
NOTES FROM THE BFA BOARD
Submitted
by Tamara Reinhardt
The
Barrel Futurities of America Board of Directors met in Oklahoma
City August 15 & 16 to finalize plans for the World Championship
Futurity/Derby/2D Juvenile/4D Sweepstakes/Youth event scheduled
for December 5-10, 2005. Following is a summary of other business
and topics that were on the Board’s agenda:
The
Board appointed Ross Wright of Norman, Oklahoma as the new BFA secretary/treasurer.
Pat Hutter will be resigning her position held for 20 years at the
end of 2005. Pat’s dedication and commitment to the barrel
racing futurity industry cannot be summarized in a paragraph. Anyone
who has entered a horse at a BFA event has been blessed by Pat’s
gracious and efficient secretary skills. Ross has a lengthy resume
of managing association memberships, producing barrel racing events,
and promoting the sport of barrel racing.
Florence
Youree, past BFA President and Board member, will also be retiring
from the BFA. Both Florence and Pat have served the Association
with passion, dedication and hard work. A reception to honor Pat
and Florence will be held Thursday, December 8, 2005 from 5-7 p.m.
in the BFA Hospitality Room. James Ward, a 20-year Board member,
should be included in this honored group. James will not be seeking
re-election this year. The BFA appreciates James’ contributions
and representation.
Impact
Gel has joined forces with the BFA as a major sponsor of the Youth
Barrel Race. Too, Impact Gel will be the official timer/scoreboard
sponsor. In addition to the monetary sponsorship, Impact Gel has
donated 10 Impact Gel Pads to be presented as awards.
EZ
ALL-Dirt’s Natural Enemy is a major product sponsor of the
BFA.
They will host a Trade Show booth and present their exceptional
products as awards at the World Championships.
LIMITED
RIDER TOPIC: The BFA Board conducted a lengthy discussion regarding
limiting the number of horses with which Futurity riders may compete.
Although the topic has generated a great deal of discussion in publications
and on the internet, the BFA Board stands by its decision to return
to the 4 year old futurity format and offer a 2D payoff option to
producers. In the Board’s discussion, it was agreed that 4D
barrel races are primarily responsible for the decrease in futurity
entries. The reining and cutting horse industries are not analogous
to the barrel racing industry, so it is difficult to statistically
compare the impact that limiting riders would have on futurity barrel
racing. It was noted that with entry data from the 2004 World Championships,
if futurity riders had been limited to 3 horses, only 9 horses would
have had a different rider.
FOUR
YEAR OLD INCENTIVE UPDATE: This program, implemented by Board member
Rex Nelson, will reward the highest placing 4 year old futurity
horses at the World Championships. Rex has collected in excess of
$10,000 from both individual donors and the sale of saddle raffle
tickets. Bobby Stivers, legendary futurity rider, and Moe Poore
of Frontier Saddlery have donated a Bobby Stivers barrel racing
saddle to be awarded to the lucky ticket winner. Tickets are $3.00/2
for $5.00. Request your tickets from a BFA Board member. Frontier
Saddlery can be contacted at (256)632-2910 and is located at Rt
1 2795 Hwy 75, Flat Rock, Alabama. Following are the individuals

Board members if there are questions or suggestions.
On
a personal note, Kay Young, longtime BFA Board member, is at home
recuperating from cancer surgery. She is advised not to ride for
several weeks, but her prognosis for recovery is excellent. Her
barrel racing friends wish her a hurried healing!
August
17, 2005:
Pat Hutter Retires From the BFA
Congratulations to Pat Hutter for many years of service to the BFA
as secretary. This retirement is much deserved. Hutter said, "I
have such a busy schedule with all the rodeos I am a part of that
this is not really a retirement at all. I love to stay busy and keeping
busy to me means working." Ross Wright, was voted in as the new
BFA Secretary. Wright is well suited to the job as she has been involved
with barrel racing her entire life. In her career she is one of the
founders of Central 4D Barrel Racing, Future Fortunes and Shoot Out
Productions. She is a familiar face and comes to the job with great
ambition and credentials.
NOTE: Pat will continue in her position until January 2006.

Update from the Board of Directors
Submitted
by Tamara Reinhardt
I
know many of you are relieved to have some time this summer to give
your futurity mounts a much needed rest. Now, it is on to those
3 year old prospects!
Congratulations
to the BFA points leader Leslie Willis and Playing With Effort.
Leslie and her horse lead a tough pack of talented riders and futurity
athletes. Christine Higgins’ Dashing Mistafier ridden by Lance
Graves is in second place followed very closely by Clay Sewalt’s
KR Silver Spur ridden by Bo Hill.
Pete
Oen has shouldered the responsibility of keeping the points updated.
He has done a great job this year and presented a valuable spreadsheet
listing EVERY horse/rider combination who was awarded points at
a BFA-approved futurity.
Upcoming
fall futurities will prove to be crucial in determining the year-end
Futurity Champion. Mark your calendars for these
competitions:
Indiana Futurity - September 9-11
Bar Nothin Barrel Bash - September 28-October 2
Victory Farms - October 7-9
BFA World Championships - December 5-10
Entries
for the BFA World Championships 4D Sweepstakes and Juvenile Futurity
are due August 15. Entry blanks were mailed to BFA members, and
the entry and rule information can also be downloaded from the BFA
webpage.
The
Youth 3D entries are also due August 15. Just a reminder, the format
this year will be a full second split between each division.
The BFA wants to encourage the youth riders to come and experience
the World Championships atmosphere!
ATMOSPHERE
- John Wainscott will host the $100,00 Pro-Tour Barrel Race in conjunction
with the BFA World Championships. With a limited number of draw
positions, this event may already be “filled”, but everyone
agrees that this is an exciting addition to the Championships.
Welcome
to Andis Endurance Clippers as a product sponsor of the BFA.
Twenty sets of clippers will be awarded at the World Championships.
Saddle
raffle tickets are still available from Board members. These ticket
sales will provide a bonus program for the highest placing 4 yr.
old futurity horses at Oklahoma City. A thank you gesture to those
owners and trainers who brought those “babies” on in
this transition year.
Arena
banners are available for $175. These banners will be displayed
at the BFA World Championships in the arena. Harlequin Farm Futurity
producer Robert Gifford utilized this advertising program at his
futurity. This provides incredible visibility for a product, stallion
service, or training facility. There will be internet visibility,
too, as the events at Oklahoma City will be broadcast over the internet.
Contact BFA Board members for information. Don’t delay!
BFA
Board of Directors Meeting - August 15-16. The Board will be reviewing
